Untitled (2000)
single channel video and sound installation

The artist is hysterically whistling the tune Auld Lang Syne. In the video, we can see pencils being rubbed harshly against a board to the rhythm of the song. The resulting sound is almost explosive. Untitled is a work that conveys an energy of aggression and nostalgia that overwhelms the viewer's perception.

This is something that is fundamental to my video work. The aim isn't to construct meaning, but to construct energy so that the moving images are the very representation of energy. This video only features 'Auld Lang Syne' and the movement of pencils, and I still can't think of a title to suit the destructive energy that results from the combination of these two elements.
