How have we experienced and communicated place and space? In a rapidly changing society, both the nature of movement and the meaning of place are also undergoing profound change.
Asakai began this series in 2014, which explores the theme of wayfinding—the human capacity to navigate—by journeying north and south with migratory birds as guides. It documents shifting landscapes and the traces of time. Methods of navigation vary across environments and cultures, reflecting the diverse ways we relate to the world. Through the act of movement, Asakai seeks new perspectives and methods for reinterpreting the relationship between people and the land.
