Cassette tape, Cassette player

An installation composed of cassette tapes wound around spherical objects and a mechanism that plays them.
Here, the tape forms a continuous loop with no clear beginning or end. It moves unpredictably across the surface of each sphere, generating constant noise. Each sphere varies in size, and the amount of "time" inscribed on its surface is proportional to its surface area.
In conventional recording, time is linear—a necessary framework for storing and retrieving sound. But when time is wrapped around a sphere, the correlation between temporal sequence and spatial position collapses. The result is a loss of narrative continuity, a breakdown of meaning.
Yet it is precisely through this loss that meaning begins to emerge. The destruction of temporal structure opens space for new relationships—between sounds, between listener and medium. What was once a clear recording becomes an ambiguous field of noise, inviting new interpretations and perceptions.
This installation questions the systems of recording and playback, urging us to reconsider the very act of listening.
