This is the first sculpture made by the artist's own hands. From “Bivalvia: Act I,” we can see the artist's interest in the relationship between the oyster's body and the human tongue, and the similarity of their shapes.
Inspired by the fact that the surface of the bivalve shell is technically known as a “sculpture,” the artist cast the inside of the oyster “sculpture” (shell) in resin to materialize it. The inside of the oyster, which means a mute person in English-speaking countries, becomes material, which is then transformed into a form reminiscent of a tongue, and the moment when the oyster and the tongue meet is sculpted.
While creating this work, the artist envisioned the idea of “Bivalvia: Act II.
