Sachiko Kazama

1972. born in Tokyo, Japan
Lives and works in Tokyo, Japan

1996 graduated from Department pf Print Making, Musashino Art School

●Profile
Exploring "present" and "past" of Japan, Kazama Sachiko engraves unique investigations into Japanese history on her woodblock prints. With abundant color expressions between black and white, her works display the ambiguity in human emotions, social situations, or memories and records of the past. Demonstrating graduations within dichotomies like black/white or bad/good, Kazama critically portraits indeterminacy of the history with a sense of humor. Kazama was awarded Okazaki Kyoko prize at PARCO GOMES Manga Grand-Prix as her debut in 1993, and most recently she won the excellent prize at Okamoto Taro Memorial Contemporary Art Awards in 2006.
